The 2009 Martin Luther King Jr. Lecture at Vanderbilt University Law School featuring Dean Melvin Oliver of UC – Santa Barbara. Melvin Oliver is a professor of sociology and Dean of Social Sciences in the College of Letters and Science at the University of California – Santa Barbara. Before joining UC-Santa Barbara as Dean of Social Sciences, Dean Oliver has served on the UCLA faculty as a professor in the department of policy studies and as director of the Center for the Study of Urban Poverty. His scholarship focuses on poverty, inequity and social policy, and race and interethnic relations. Dean Oliver earned his Ph.D. at Washington University.
