The School of Humanities and Social Sciences at the College of Charleston is responsible for a large part of the general education curriculum of the College, with requirements in English, history, the humanities and the social sciences. With over 170 full-time faculty members, this school offers undergraduate degrees in 10 major programs and 17 minors. Our professors place a strong emphasis on the value of written expression and collaborative research, while preparing students to function as responsible, independent world citizens and engaged, lifelong learners. In addition, faculty members here have distinguished themselves as accomplished teacher-scholars. The core departments in the School of Humanities and Social Sciences include communication, political science, English, psychology, history, religious studies, sociology, anthropology and philosophy. Our professors also direct the urban studies program as well as aa great many of the College’s interdisciplinary minor programs, including archaeology; African studies; African American studies; British studies; comparative literature; Crime, Law and Society; European studies; film studies; and women’s and gender studies.
