On Friday, September 30, 2011, a faculty panel in the humanities and social sciences discussed the faculty recruitment process from the search committee’s perspective. Topics included what the search committee looks for in application documents (CV, cover letter, research/teaching statements), the screening process, and selecting candidates to interview. The School of Humanities and Social Sciences at the College of Charleston is responsible for a large part of the general education curriculum of the College, with requirements in English, history, the humanities and the social sciences. With over 170 full-time faculty members, this school offers undergraduate degrees in 10 major programs and 17 minors. Our professors place a strong emphasis on the value of written expression and collaborative research, while preparing students to function as responsible, independent world citizens and engaged, lifelong learners. In addition, faculty members here have distinguished themselves as accomplished teacher-scholars. The core departments in the School of Humanities and Social Sciences include communication, political science, English, psychology, history, religious studies, sociology, anthropology and philosophy.
